Translocase of the outer mitochondrial membrane 34 (TOM34), exhibits chaperone-like activity and is involved in importing precursor proteins into the mitochondria. It is mainly located in the cytoplasm and occasionally associates with the outer mitochondrial membrane. It also features weak ATPase activity and six TPR repeats, highlighting its functional versatility.

Identified as a component of the cellular chaperone system, TOMM34 interacts with Hsp70 and Hsp90, influencing protein folding. Elevated levels of TOMM34 are observed in bladder, colorectal, breast and ovarian cancers, where it promotes tumor growth and serves as a biomarker for poor prognosis.
