Are you curious about cancer? We hear the word "cancer" a lot, but have you ever delved into the drivers and the science of cancer? Join NUS Professor and Cancer Science Institute of Singapore Director, Prof. Ashok Venkitaraman as he shares more about cancer in this Discovering Academia podcast, including the BRCA breast cancer genes and genetic mutation, the potential role of aldehydes, and the time where he was interviewed by a UK tabloid. Hope you enjoy the episode! #TGIF
Renowned cancer researcher, Prof Ashok Venkitaraman from NUS Centre for Cancer Research at #NUS Medicine, did not start out wanting to study cancer research. Initially training as an infectious diseases physician and studying the immune system, Prof Ashok became fascinated by the mechanisms of multiple DNA rearrangements in the genome of immune cells, which gradually developed into a lifelong interest in studying cancer genes and therapeutics. In this podcast, he explains what is cancer, how it can come about and what some current research has uncovered, so far. Listen for more: https://lnkd.in/gJaQGSmq

Hello, Jakarta! We had the fantastic opportunity to visit LabIndo last week and it was amazing to see so many Life Sciences and Lab brands under one roof! The trade show certainly lived up to its reputation as the largest exhibition and conference platform for Indonesian scientific research. As leaders in the life sciences, we are excited to bring our innovative reagents and services to new markets beyond Singapore. We are looking for passionate, experienced local distributors in APAC to work with our flexible and dynamic team. Interested in exploring a partnership with us? We checked out the FHA-Food & Beverage trade show yesterday and managed to catch Meatiply's Kumaresan Thanabal live at his panel discussion on whether hybrid meats are the future of sustainable meat production! This was our first time at a Food Trade show and wow, we were blown away. It was filled with eye-catching, elegant, and sometimes elaborate food displays 👩🍳 There was quite the feast laid out as well! 😋 That's not the end; we've got another tradeshow visit lined up this week. Where are we off to next? 🛫 Keep following us to find out! 👀

What better way to bring theory to life than to hear from those who have experienced Biotech and Start-Up Life? 🤓 Thanks again to Dr Han Teng Wong and Dr Yong Zi Tan for inviting our COO, Dr Zhaoru Lin to participate in this sharing session with your Masters students from NUS Department of Biological Sciences 👩🎓 We're glad to see more biotechs sprouting in Singapore 🌱 and hope that we will find success as a nation! In the meantime, we will continue to help build up our local ecosystem by providing innovative research solutions tailored to real-world laboratory applications! 👩🔬 🙌
In the penultimate lecture for NUS Master in Biotech course with Yong Zi Tan, we invited three trailblazers from Singapore's biotech ecosystem to share their experiences with our students - Yann Chong Tan from Nuevocor, Zhaoru Lin from AbAsia BioLabs and Xi (Sissi) Lin from Nucleic Acid Therapeutics Initiative (NATi). They each shared their journey as well as key insights to navigating the different career paths available to our students. It was a blast having all of them with us at NUS and the perfect ending to the course module, Advanced and Current Topics in Drug Development. #drugdevelopment #careersinbiotech

We love us a cup of tea at AbAsia. But what makes an excellent cup of tea? Is it simply down to the variety of tea used? 🕵♀️ Researchers from the Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University discovered that the collection of nitrogen-metabolising microbes (microbiome) found around the roots of the tea plant strongly influenced tea quality. To prove that it was the root microbiome that boosted the tea flavour, they created a synthetic microbial community (SynCom21) to test this hypothesis. 🌟 Not only did SynCom21 enhance the quality of low-quality tea plants, it also improved high-quality plants, especially in low-nitrogen conditions. 🌟 This suggests that artificial microbiomes could be used instead of chemical fertilizers to improve crop quality 🌿 So the next time you enjoy a cuppa, do savour the flavours conferred courtesy of the plant's microbiome ☕ Learn more about theanine and the tea plant's unique nitrogen requirements in the research article (Current Biology): https://lnkd.in/gujSczZb
